Pump Vibration

Vibration and Noise in Pumps

Paper No. 42

F. R. Szenasi/J. C. Wachel, Pump Handbook, 1st Edition, McGraw-Hill, 1976, pp. 9-87 to 9-97 .

The increased size and speed of pumps and the introduction of regulations which specify allowable noise and vibration limits in pumping systems have created new interest in the development of techniques to anticipate when vibration and noise problems will occur and methods to alleviate them. This chapter will discuss some of the more important aspects of such factors as shaft lateral and torsional vibration, fluid pulsation, cavitation, piping vibration, fluid treatments, and structure-borne noise and vibration.
